Course Information

Description

This hands-on, case-based course will sharpen your skills in the 2018 AAP Classification system. Walk away with improved confidence in locating the elusive gingival margin (GM), staging and grading periodontitis, and applying evidence-based calibration strategies to your periodontal assessments. Participants will learn how to accurately measure the GM, chart the GM to calculate precise CAL, and apply the key rules in staging periodontitis, using the highest CAL clinically and the worst area of RBL.

Clarify what counts — and what doesn’t — when determining severity and extent of disease. Designed to be both practical and thought-provoking, this session helps clinicians improve consistency, confidence, and clarity in periodontitis diagnosis and documentation.

  • Locate and measure the GM accurately to support precise CAL.
  • Chart periodontal findings to determine what counts and what does not to conclude accurate staging and grading of periodontitis using the 2018 AAP Classification system.
  • Differentiate between clinical and radiographic indicators, applying the correct use of highest CAL and worst RBL to determine classification.
  • Calibrate periodontal assessments through case-based exercises and collaborative discussion, improving diagnostic consistency and clinical confidence.
