This course will delve into the foundational aspects of orthodontic treatment and procedures. It's tailored for dental assistants or hygienists keen on exploring orthodontic assisting, refining practical skills, or refreshing their knowledge.
*Typodont models will be utilized for the practical exercises.
In the instructional part of the course, we'll explore:
1) Essential orthodontic principles
2) Phases of orthodontic treatment
3) Techniques for orthodontic record-keeping
4) Orthodontic tools, equipment, and materials
5) Various orthodontic procedures including bonding, debonding, adjustments, and appliance placements
6) Strategies for orthodontic documentation and note-taking
7) Handling orthodontic emergencies and patient care.
In the hands-on segment, participants will learn to:
1) Apply separators and band teeth
2) Attach brackets and position them accurately
3) Select, position, and adjust different types of wires
4) Secure wires using various techniques.
To help participants gain an understanding of orthodontic treatment procedures.
Obtain hands-on training to learn and improve on their orthodontic skills.
Level II Dental Assistants require proof certificate of successfully completing a Supplemental Course in Orthodontic Procedures

Instructors
Dr. Shadzi Jebraeili
DMD, MS, FRCDC, Dip. ABO
Dr. Jebraeili is a dual board-certified Orthodontic Specialist from Canada and the United States. She attended the University of Toronto, where she received her Honors Bachelor of Science Degree with High Distinction in 2010. Following this, Dr. Jebraeili attended Nova Southeastern University, where she graduated top of her class, and received her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree in 2015. Soon after graduation, Dr. Jebraeili pursued her specialty degree in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at the University of Texas Health San Antonio, where she also completed her Master of Science in 2018. Her Masters research focused on evaluating the effectiveness of a proprietary bonding material in inhibiting enamel demineralization (white-spot lesions) adjacent to orthodontic brackets.
Dr. Jebraeili has been involved in many volunteer efforts including the Jamaica Medical/Dental Mission Trip, Give Kids a Smile, and the Oral Cancer Awareness Run/Walkathon, to help different communities and to raise awareness! As an orthodontist Dr. Jebraeili has treated many smiles and helped improve many lives. She has treated patients with dental anomalies, impacted teeth, missing teeth, jaw discrepancies, and more. She also works hand in hand with Oral Surgeons to treat patients requiring orthognathic jaw surgery.
Outside of the world of orthodontics, Dr. Jebraeili enjoys canvas painting, yoga, cooking, and spending time with her family.
